How to hide or show the taskbar language bar in Windows 7

For Windows 7, the language bar on the task bar can be docked, floating on the desktop and hidden from view. In this short tutorial, I’ll show the necessary steps to hide or show the language bar.

For the first section of this tutorial, you will learn how to hide the language bar from view. In the second section, you will then learn how to show the language bar docked on the task bar. The language bar is generally situated on the right hand side of the task bar as show in Figure 1:

Hiding the Taskbar Language Bar in Windows 7

It is very easy to hide the language bar and only takes a couple of steps. First is to right click on the language bar itself to bring up its menu and select settings (Figure 2).

After selecting settings, you will see the Text Services and Input Languages window. Click on the Language Bar tab located at the top of the window and select Hidden as show in Figure 3.

Then click OK and the language bar will be hidden from view.

To show the language bar docked onto the taskbar, we have to first go into Control Panel by click on the start menu and selecting Control Panel (Figure 4).

The Control Panel window will now appear and select the Change keyboards or other input methods link under the Clock, Language and Region heading (Figure 5).

The Region and Language window will now be shown and click on the Change Keyboards… button (Figure 6).

You will see the Text Services and Input Languages window. Click on the Language Bar tab located at the top of the window and select Docked on the taskbar as shown in Figure 7.

Click OK and now you will see your language bar docked onto your taskbar like Figure 1.
